There’s no such thing as reputation risk (part 1)

Which one of these is not like the others?

  • Fraud risk
  • Strategic risk
  • Market risk
  • Credit risk
  • Reputation risk

Clearly, the title of this blog post gives the answer away, so let me ask a different question. Why? Why is “reputation risk” different, and why doesn’t it even belong with the others in a list of risk types?

I’ll send a $25 Starbucks gift card (or some equivalent if someone doesn’t have access to, or doesn’t like, Starbucks) to the first person who enters a comment with the answer I’m looking for, and the handful of people I’ve already talked to about this aren’t eligible. In a week or two I’ll post Part 2 where I’ll explain what I’m talking about, and respond to some of the answers people (hopefully) have given to my question.
