The CXOWARE Blog

Welcome to the CXOWARE blog. We hope you’ll join us for lively and good natured discussion about risk and risk issues!  We’re risk geeks, plain and simple. We’re big advocates of the Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR) framework for quantifying risk.

There’s no such thing as reputation risk (part 1)

Which one of these is not like the others?

  • Fraud risk
  • Strategic risk
  • Market risk
  • Credit risk
  • Reputation risk

Clearly, the title of this blog post gives the answer away, so let me ask a different question. Why? Why is “reputation risk” different, and why doesn’t it even belong with the others in a list of risk types?

I’ll send a $25 Starbucks gift card (or some equivalent if someone doesn’t have access to, or doesn’t like, Starbucks) to the first person who enters a comment with the answer I’m looking for, and the handful of people I’ve already talked to about this aren’t eligible. In a week or two I’ll post Part 2 where I’ll explain what I’m talking about, and respond to some of the answers people (hopefully) have given to my question.
